How to Have a Positive Egg Donation Experience

Some women cite becoming an egg donor as one of the best things they’ve ever done. By helping couples start a family that otherwise would have been impossible, they can help others achieve their dreams. They can give existing children much-loved siblings that can change their lives, and egg donors enjoy the satisfaction of sharing their genes with the world.

Moreover, the egg donation experience can be a fascinating glimpse into your own health. By going through the screening procedures of egg donation, women can gain valuable knowledge about their genetic, physical, and reproductive health that they otherwise would never have known. But for most egg donors, the possibility of making someone’s dreams come true is perhaps the most attractive reason for egg donation.

Complications from egg donation is exceedingly rare, but it’s smart to do your research and choose the right agencies to ensure a safe and smooth experience. After all, if you want to make the world better for a family struggling with infertility, remember to safeguard your own health and wellbeing.

How to ensure a healthy, seamless egg donation experience:

  1. Make sure you choose an experienced agency with caring, compassionate, and communicative staff members and owners.

Here at New Life Georgia, we care deeply about the health and wellbeing of all women who walk through our doors. Our team nurtures and protects egg donors through every step of the process. It’s important to look for an agency with transparent business practices, who clearly educate egg donors throughout the experience, and who answer each and every question with care and focus.

It helps to read the experiences of other egg donors who have gone through the egg donation program you’re interested in. Check out our Egg Donor testimonials page to read about the experiences of our own egg donors. Here you can read what they thought about our staff, about their experiences, and how they felt about their contributions to helping families achieve their dreams.

Many of our egg donors come back to donate a second or third time. This speaks volumes about the level of comfort and trust these women develop with us. Before you pick an agency, make sure it’s the one that will take the best care of you!

  1. Ask questions! Ask about their policies and how they will support your if complications arise.

Be sure to come up with a list of questions to ask your agency before you make your decision. Ask about the medicines you’ll have to take, the devotion of time required, the nature of the procedure, and any risks. Ask them how long they’ve been in the egg donation business, and how many donations they’ve already processed successfully. Ask them about their screening processes and how they protect the medical privacy of their egg donors. Ask them how they manage payments, and if they’ll allow you ample time to review documents before you sign.

Check out our Knowledge Base for Egg Donors that covers everything from who we accept as egg donors, to everything about our contract, to the matching process, to compensation and beyond. We believe that no question should go unanswered and that everyone should feel knowledgeable and comfortable with their egg donation experience.

  1. Know what to expect.

There are four major phases to the egg donation process. First, we carefully screen our egg donors. It is important to us to protect your health and that of your future fertility. Egg donors are given extensive physical exams, blood tests, and fertility evaluations, all at no cost to the donor. You’ll also be asked to complete a medical history form so we can get a clearer picture of your genetics.

We will then put you on birth control pills in order to regulate your menstrual cycles and to pave the way for stimulating egg production. This involves three classes of fertility drugs that will cause ovaries to produce eggs, encourage the development of multiple egg follicles, and aid in egg retrieval.

The actual egg retrieval involves a process called transvaginal ultrasound aspiration, which is a safe procedure in which a small needle passes through the top wall of the vagina and is inserted into the ovary to remove an egg. This process is repeated with each egg and usually takes 30 – 60 minutes total. After recovering, the patient is then free to go home.

  1. Consider your own motivations to become an egg donor.

The egg donors we have in our database are an international group of healthy, educated, altruistic women who have healthy families of their own. They love helping other women achieve their dreams of motherhood. Most women are not motivated by the generous sum of money agencies pay for egg donation but are motivated by the desire to help others.

In order to know if egg donation is right for you, think about what attracts you to egg donation. Do you want to help couples achieve their dream of starting a family? Do you want to give children siblings? Do you want to support the rights of gay couples to have families of their own? Do you believe your genes are particularly strong and healthy, and do you want to share this gift with the world?

Whatever your motivation, egg donation helps millions of families every year start families. It’s a beautiful, touching experience, but it can also be a complicated one. In order to have the best experience possible and to feel good about your donation, make sure you choose an agency that cares about its people, that stands up for the rights of women, and that educates, advocates, and improves lives.
